Brazil will now be represented at one of the globe’s foremost events for gamers and betting firms. Fabio Augusto Macorin, the undersecretary for Monitoring and Enforcement at the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting inside the Ministry of Finance in Brazil, will speak at the ICE Barcelona 2026 event. This underlines Brazil’s growing prominence in global debates about this sector.
The reason and justification or permission for Macorin’s travel has been made available in Wednesday’s (14) edition of the Official Gazette in Brazil and signed by Regis Anderson Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting. The travel will take place between January 17 and 22 and will be sustained and financed entirely by the federal government in Brazil.
An International Forum for the Betting Industry
ICE Barcelona 2026 is a worldwide event where the betting, gaming, and lottery industry participants come together to discuss the trends and issues surrounding the industry. It is scheduled to happen between the 19th and 21st of January at the Fira Gran Via in the town of Barcelona. The event is part of the World Gaming Week.
Macorin’s presence as a panelist attests to the increasing involvement of Brazil in international regulatory discussions, particularly during a period when it is establishing its controlled market of bets. The decree allowing Macorin’s presence was signed on January 13, one day prior to its publication, emphasizing its significance to the Ministry of Finance.
Brazil in the Spotlight at ICE Barcelona
One of the main highlights of the 2026 edition will be the creation of a dedicated space for Brazil. ICE Barcelona will host “Casa Brasil”, an exclusive environment designed specifically for the Brazilian betting, gaming, and lottery industry. The space will operate throughout the three days of the event as a private meeting hub for executives, operators, and Brazilian government representatives to foster strategic dialogue and partnerships.
It is a sign of the global industry acknowledging Brazil as one of the most important countries in regulated emerging markets.
Fighting Illegal Gambling on the Global Stage
Macorin is to speak on January 21, from 1:20 pm to 2:00 pm, during the “Disrupting the Black Market: Brazil’s Multi-Front War Against Illegal Gambling”, held on the company stage as part of the Latin America Academy program.
Brazil is facing issues related to illegal gambling, WeedMem platforms costing it around R$ 10.8 billion per year due to a lack of taxation. The panel session would discuss how Brazil is dealing with the issue of illegal gambling platforms.
Also on this panel will be: Leonardo Baptista, CEO and co-founder of Pay4Fun; Luiz Felipe Maia, Founding Partner of Maia Yoshiyasu Advogados; and Rodrigo Del Monaco of BTG Pactual Bank – Associate Partner.
A Signal of Regulatory Maturity
The presence of Brazil at ICE Barcelona 2026, whether through official representation or through its own country space, marks the country’s desire to place itself at the forefront of the international betting sector. Through such direct interaction with the international community, the Brazilian government is seeking not only share their experiences with the international community but also to fight illegal gambling together with the international community.
