Bee Macau has started full-scale production at a casino-grade playing card manufacturing facility, bringing local supply capacity to a market that has long depended on imported cards. The development marks a new stage for Macau’s gaming supply chain, with the plant now producing Bee casino-grade playing cards for the city’s 6 gaming operators as well as overseas markets.
The facility is a joint venture between Belgium-based card manufacturer Cartamundi Group and Hong Kong-listed Macau gaming supplier Asia Pioneer Entertainment Holdings Ltd, or APE. Backed by an investment of around HK$500 million, equivalent to $64.1 million, the operation has already completed test runs and made early exports to regional Asian gaming operators before moving into full-scale production.
Local Supply Capacity
The launch gives Macau a local option in casino-grade card manufacturing, something that had not previously been available at this scale. According to APE Executive Director and CEO Herman Ng, the market now has a local choice that expands diversity in playing card supply. He said the company sees the project as a significant step for the gaming industry in Macau and noted that Cartamundi had entrusted the venture with its world-class technology and training.
The new factory is positioned not only as a production site but also as a strategic addition to the city’s gaming supply chain. With local production now underway, the facility is expected to reduce reliance on imported playing cards, which have long dominated the market. This move may be very significant for operators searching for reliable suppliers.
According to Cartamundi, the Macau business integrates more than 200 years of experience in creating cards along with the knowledge about the local market. In addition, the Bee company has been active since 1892, with its brand being purchased by Cartamundi in 2019, enabling Bee Macau to prove the brand identity while establishing itself in Macau.
Technology And Operations
The plant is equipped with automation, artificial intelligence technology, and robotic systems, all operated by a local workforce. Cartamundi Asia Pacific Managing Director Jason Pearce said the factory is intended to help reduce supply chain risks tied to imported playing cards in Macau. The use of local staff alongside automated systems reflects the company’s effort to combine production efficiency with local operational support.
The facility’s launch follows a period of testing and early export activity. Before full-scale production began, the factory had already carried out test runs and shipped products to gaming operators in other parts of Asia. That early-stage activity suggests the venture is already operating beyond the local market while still establishing its Macau-based manufacturing base.
The company’s product line is focused on casino-grade playing cards under the Bee label. With production now active, Bee Macau is adding another layer to the region’s gaming supply ecosystem at a time when sourcing and operational resilience remain important for operators and suppliers.
G2E Asia Showcase
Bee Macau plans to exhibit its cards at G2E Asia, which will take place between May 12 to 14 at The Venetian Macao booth A922. The company plans to display its “Made in Macau” casino-grade playing cards as well as its BEE TEK smart shoe during the event.
The event will allow the company not only to showcase its new factory but also introduce the products that will be produced there. As soon as the manufacturing of the products is started in full scale, the company will operate in the market with a local factory, a well-known brand, and a product range intended for both the local audience and overseas clients.
