The introduction of a new bill in the Córdoba Legislature brings the discussion on internet betting in Argentina back into the foreground. Once again, the Civic Front party has advanced an effort to strike down Law No. 10,793, approved in December 2021 and changed in 2023, govern online gambling in the province. Leading by legislator Walter Nostrala, the proposal aims to undo existing policies on the grounds that its effects have been adverse and it fails to meet its goal of shielding minors and eliminating underground gambling.
A Bill with Strong Opposition Support
The Civic Front asserts that the battle against internet gambling is not finished, and regardless of not having attained repeal in 2024, they will once more request the treatment in commission. “Last year we were unable to achieve the repeal of this law, we were very close, but we said that we were losing a battle, but we are not going to abandon the war against online gambling,” Nostrala added.

Criticism of Law No. 10,793

The Economic Factor and the Protection of Minors
Furthermore criticized in the initiative is the priority of tax enforcement over the safeguarding of minors in the statutes and its regulations. The legislators wondered, “At this point, we ask ourselves the following question: Is it more important to regulate gambling to ensure taxation to the State? So, does regulating and obtaining taxation to the provincial State clean up or eliminate the harm to minors due to their participation?”
By this strategy, one might challenge the efficiency of the existing legislation and strengthen the argument that the regulations have not been able to lessen the influence of internet gambling on sensitive segments of society.
Support from Other Institutions
Equally important for the project is the adhesion of religious groups to the repeal effort. In particular, the opposition bloc asked for consideration of Monsignor Ángel Rossi, the Social Pastorate, and the archbishop of Córdoba, who have all publicly criticized the rules and the continuous approval of internet betting in the area.
The initiative reverse Might Not. Commission will debate 10,793; the Civic Front will try to compile support for its support. Nostrala and his team are confident that this year they can achieve a different outcome even if in 2024 the proposal did not garner the required votes.
