Macau’s government collected just over MOP9.07 billion, or US$1.12 billion, in fiscal revenue from gaming in April, according to the city’s Financial Services Bureau. The result was 2.3% higher than the MOP8.87 billion recorded in March, adding to the steady flow of tax income generated by the casino sector during the year.
For the first 4 months of 2026, gaming tax revenue reached MOP34.87 billion. That was 16.9% higher than the same period a year earlier and shows how important the industry remains to the city’s fiscal base. Gaming taxes also accounted for nearly 86.5% of Macau’s MOP40.30 billion in current revenue recorded in the period to April 30.
April Tax Collection
The April figures suggest that the gaming taxes continue to be an important source of government revenue through casino activities. Under the ten-year gaming concession arrangement introduced in the territory starting 1 January 2023, the tax rate on casino gross gaming revenue is currently set at 40%.
The latest monthly result came after March’s MOP8.87 billion and marked a modest rise in government collections from the sector. While the government’s tax figures do not directly track casino gross gaming revenue for the same period, they remain a key measure of the industry’s contribution to public finances.
The Financial Services Bureau data show that gaming remained by far the largest source of current revenue for the Macau government in the opening months of the year. That continued dependence on the sector is reflected in the share of current revenue attributable to gaming taxes, which reached almost 86.5% by the end of April.
Year-To-Date Revenue
Between January and April, the government’s gaming tax intake totaled MOP34.87 billion. The April revenue grew by 16.9% when compared to last year and comprised around 37.9% of Macau’s projected yearly gaming tax revenue in 2026 of almost MOP92.53 billion.
The early-year performance suggests the government is on a solid path in relation to its gaming-related revenue target. With 4 months already generating more than a third of the annual forecast, the figures point to a strong start to the fiscal year. At the same time, the share of current revenue made up by gaming taxes highlights how closely the broader public finances remain tied to the performance of the casino sector.
Timing Difference In Data
The government’s tax take figures and Macau’s casino gross gaming revenue during the same period are not directly comparable. One reason is that there is usually a delay between the moment gaming revenue is recorded by casino operators and the time the government registers the related tax payment.
That timing gap means the monthly tax data should not be read as an exact mirror of casino revenue for the same calendar period. Even so, the figures continue to provide a clear picture of how much the gaming sector contributes to Macau’s finances. With April’s collection moving higher and the year-to-date total already well ahead of the same point last year, gaming remains central to the government’s revenue base.
