The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) flagged 70 suspicious betting alerts in the first quarter of 2026, covering 10 different sports.
Europe accounted for the largest share of alerts, followed by North America, Asia, South America, Africa, and global eSports. Football, tennis, and eSports dominated the list, together making up more than 80% of all reports.
According to IBIA, these alerts were passed on to relevant authorities for investigation, with some cases still under review.
Europe and LatAm remain hotspots for suspicious betting
Football produced the highest number of alerts, with 25 cases spread across Africa, North America, Asia, South America, and Europe. Tennis followed with 16 alerts, including incidents in Egypt, Mexico, India, Chile, and several European countries.
eSports contributed 15 alerts, reflecting the global nature of online competitions. Other sports, such as table tennis, volleyball, basketball, cricket, handball, badminton, and MMA, recorded smaller numbers but still showed vulnerabilities. Europe led with 28% of all alerts, while North America accounted for 20%, Asia 21%, South America 13%, Africa 9%, and global eSports 9%.
Brazil continues to be a hotspot for suspicious betting activity. Between 2021 and 2025, the country recorded 68 alerts across eight sports, with football making up the majority.
The IBIA report also noted that Brazil’s betting market is undergoing a major shift following the introduction of federal licensing in 2025. Gross gambling revenue is projected to reach BRL 28.8 billion (US$4.7 billion) by 2030, with licensed operators expected to control more than 80% of the market.
In the wider Latin American region, Brazil is forecast to dominate in 2026, accounting for 39% of total betting revenue, nearly double Mexico’s share. Argentina, Colombia, and Peru follow, but Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina together will represent over 70% of the LatAm market.
IBIA’s membership includes more than 90 companies and 200 betting brands, monitoring over 1.5 million sports events annually across 80 sports. The association tracks customer activity across more than US$300 billion in global betting turnover each year.
